This paper gives an overview of trends in teenage pregnancy and birth rates, and of recent research relating to adolescent sexual activity, pregnancy, and parenthood. It examines potential psychological precursors to, and consequences of, adolescent pregnancy, and looks at the impact of father involvement and grandparent support on child and teen-mother outcomes. It also discusses the policy implications of welfare reform for young mothers and their children.
