This study found that maternal disapproval and a positive mother-child relationship were associated with increased abstinence, or decreased frequency of intercourse among sexually active youths.  A poor relationship and discussion of birth control were associated with higher levels of sexual activity, although discussions of birth control were not associated with higher levels of use.
