This paper reviews past studies done on fatherhood and the impact of father absence on the well-being and development of children. The research suggests that fatherless children are more likely to have poor academic achievement, and significant emotional and behavioural problems, and are more likely to participate in risky activities such as early sexual activity and drug and alcohol abuse. Thus, the father-child relationship is important in a child's development and on his/her success later on in life.
