An Angus Reid/Globe and Mail/CTV poll in November 1999 determined that the vast majority of Canadians believe that spanking should not be made a criminal offence.  Over eight in ten (83%) Canadians feel that parents should be allowed to spank their children.  Only 16% say it should be a criminal offence for a parent to spank their children.  The demographic breakdown of these statistics is also given.
