This paper examines the effects of government reforms which increase incentives for fathers to take paternal leave after the birth of a child in Sweden.  It looks at the extent that this reform improves mothers' labour market outcomes and increases the likelihood that fathers will take greater responsibility for child care.  Overall, its findings suggest that despite such incentives, fathers do not take on a larger share of household work, as measured by leave taken to care for sick children.
