This paper discusses the American government's increasing focus on marriage and fatherhood under George Bush.  It describes various pieces of marriage- and family-related legislation that have been passed by this government, and discusses the potentially harmful effect that these initiatives may have on programs which serve low-income families.  The authors suggest that with the increased emphasis on two-parent families, programs which seek to help poor, non-custodial fathers may face significant funding cuts and pressure to promote marriage.
