This paper discusses the benefits of marriage as opposed to the negative outcomes of single-parent homes and concentrates specifically on the explanation of the President's Healthy Marriage Initiative. It addresses criticisms of this initiative but then demonstrates how it will work to support and strengthen the institution of marriage through reductions in marriage-related financial penalties, and through mentoring, education, and life-skills programs.
