In this essay the author describes how family breakdown has been harmful to self governance, respect for persons and for democratic societies as a whole. He outlines the rise of the conservative protestant family ideology in response to the family revolution and evaluates the movement’s modest impact. The author suggests that the conservative protestant family movement will need to expand its policy scope beyond "values" and use secular language to further engage the culture.
