In this speech to the Danish Institute for Human Rights, David Blankenhorn discusses the challenges that same-sex marriage legislation and assisted reproductive technologies pose to the right of children to know and be raised by their two natural parents whenever possible. Denmark was one of the first countries to give same sex couples the same rights as heterosexual married couples.Blankenhorn asserts that a child’s right to know and be raised by the natural mother and father is just as strong as an adult’s right to marry and to found a family.
