This paper is the government response to the Canadian parliamentary committee report 'For the Sake of the Children,' regarding child custody and access following parental divorce. Following the recommendations of the committee, the author, the Minister of Justice at the time, focuses on the need for new regulations to emphasize the 'best interests of the child' and the concept of 'shared parenting.'
