CASAWORKS for Families: A Promising Approach to Welfare Reform and Substance-Abusing Women

This paper describes an initiative that provides welfare-dependent women with simultaneous alcohol and drug treatment, literacy training, job skills education, parenthood training, social skills education, family violence prevention, and access to health care.  It suggests that this program has the potential to reduce welfare reliance and decrease the risk of substance abuse among the children of these women.
