This study examines the prevalence, nature and context of physical punishment and other forms of parental discipline experienced during childhood by a study group of adults in New Zealand. The study found that physical punishment was the norm among most adults in New Zealand. The study reports differences between how moms and dads discipline their children and the kind of discipline boys and girls receive. The authors call for further study of parenting strategies.
