This study suggests that poor sleep habits, resulting in a reduction of sleep among children, lead to weight gain and an increased body mass index. The study found that younger children may benefit from earlier bed times, while older children and youth may benefit from later wake times, which were associated with a lower body mass index. As a result, one policy recommendation includes a proposal of later start times for high school students.
