This paper briefly explores the association between substance abuse and family violence and the effect that the one can have on the other. It indicates that substance use can lead to violent behaviour and that being a victim of abuse can lead to substance abuse and addiction later in life. It also offers suggestions for victims of family violence and for health and wellness service providers in order to help people understand and deal with the issue.
