This paper examines the relationship between lone-mother status, mother and family characteristics, and child difficulties. The data was taken from the NLSCY for children between the ages of 6 and 11.  The results demonstrate that lone-mother families are poorer, that their children have more difficulties in the behavioral, emotional, social and academic domains, and that child morbidity is more prevalent than in two-parent families.
