This paper discusses the incidence of partner abuse during pregnancy, examines factors that put women at risk of abuse, and outlines some health risks faced by women and their children as a result of this abuse.  It also points out that most women are in contact with the health care system while pregnant, and examines possible ways that this system could be used to detect and intervene in cases of abuse.
