In this study the author interviews preteens concerning their negotiations with their parents about care arrangements for after-school hours.  It discusses the difficulties that working parents face in finding an appropriate after-school setting for preteens, looks at some of the arrangements that are made, and suggests ways that schools and communities can respond to the unique needs of working families.
