This report examines custody and living arrangements, access to the non-custodial parent, and the availability of child support for children of separated parents in Canada.  It also looks at the type of union that parents entered into with respect to likelihood of separation, and finds that children of broken common-law relationships were more likely than children of divorced parents to be raised solely by their mother, with little contact or support from their father.
