This article presents data from a 1995 survey of American parents concerning the prevalence, frequency, severity, and duration of the use corporal punishment on children.  The authors argue that, given the widespread use of corporal punishment and the studies that indicate it has negative long-term effects, greater attention must be paid to educating people about the negative consequences of this form of discipline.
