This paper discusses the effect of parenting style and parental involvement on the behaviour, educational achievement, employment, sexual activity and pregnancy history of young black girls living in poverty.  It finds that higher levels of parental supervision, involvement, authority and warmth were associated with more positive outcomes, while the most negative outcomes were associated with maternal disengagement.
