This paper discusses the difficulties encountered when attempting to measure the prevalence and effects of cohabitation.  The authors compare adolescent and mother reports of living in a cohabiting stepfamily and document the significant discrepancies in reporting that exist.  The possible effects of discrepant reporting on adolescent wellbeing are also considered.
