This paper examines cohabitation in the context of current trends in union formation and dissolution, and discusses the effects of cohabitation on child well-being.  It also investigates the racial/ethnic and social class characteristics of individuals most likely to cohabit, and looks at how cohabitation has become a part of family policy debates.
