This paper investigates the ways in which women's ethnicity and immigration status influences breastfeeding initiation and duration.  It finds that American-born mothers are 85% less likely to breastfeed than are foreign-born mothers, and 66% less likely to be breastfeeding when their child is six months old.  Particular attention is paid to exceptionally low rates of breastfeeding among American-born Hispanic mothers.
