This paper discusses the conflict faced by some mothers between desiring to breastfeed their infants, and desiring, or needing, to work while their children are very young.  It discusses the relative incompatibility of these two processes, and assesses policies that seek to enable women to engage in both activities.  One finding of this study is that women employed part time are able to breastfeed considerably longer than those employed full time.
