This paper provides an overview of American laws pertaining to the adoption of children by same-sex couples and reviews research pertaining to the impact of same-sex parenting on children.  Because research indicates that having a mother and a father, rather than two parents of the same sex, is the best situation for children, the authors argue that this debate should be framed in terms of child rights, rather than in terms of homosexual rights.
