This paper examines how women's social, economic and physical well-being is affected by polygamy and compares policies on polygamy from different countries.  In Canada, the author recommends that the government look for ways to educate women in polygamous communities about their legal status in religious unions not recognized by the state.  The author also recommends that the Department of Justice communicate directly with women involved in polygamous unions to research how policy strategies might affect them.
