This paper examines the effects of 14 different American welfare and employment programs  on marriage and cohabitation decisions among single-parent families.  It also explores ways in which parent and family characteristics such as welfare and economic status, marital experiences, age, race, and family composition may affect the relationship between welfare programs and marital behaviour.
