This paper discusses the cognitive, social and emotional benefits children receive growing up in a happily married two biological parent family. The author suggests that policies that encourage the two parent family may have a modest overall impact on the percentage of children with cognitive, social and emotional problems. The author recommends that policy makers encourage policies that strengthen marriage and family without neglecting social and economic inequality.
