This paper investigates the effects of women’s employment on marital quality, and examines the degree to which the division of household labour and a wife’s work preferences and characteristics influence marital satisfaction. Its research finds that women's levels of marital happiness are substantially affected by employment and the equality of the division of domestic responsibilities, while husband's marital satisfaction appears not to be significantly influenced. When household duties are shared and employment is in accordance with the couple's preferences and expectations, women consistently report experiencing a higher degree of marital quality.
