This paper discusses the extent to which government policy may be able to promote marital stability in Britain.  It reviews various policies that have already been implemented and argues that the most successful policies would be those that seek to maintain and improve marital quality.  It suggests that it is important to inform people about the sources of marital discord and how to address them, and to train various health professionals to identify and provide help for those with marital problems.
