This paper reports on long-term trends that point to the weakening of the institution of marriage.  Marriages do not last as long as they did in the past, and there is a declining perception of marriage as the institution governing childbearing and parenthood.  There is also an indication that young people are showing renewed interest in marriage, and that increasingly widespread programs of pre-marital education are having an impact.
