This paper is a summary of the Justice Department of Canada's findings on spousal assault, including the effectiveness of the criminal justice system, the attitudes of the victims towards their experiences, and the legal difficulties experienced by women who have been abused. It also discusses the success of the new mandatory charging legislation and ways in which the spousal assault branch of the justice system can be further improved.
