This paper explores the union formation and childbearing patterns of East Germans who entered adulthood during the period of upheaval and uncertainty caused by the reunification of East and West Germany.  It finds that individuals in this cohort tend to postpone marriage, wait longer before having children, and choose to have only one child.  The factors that contribute to these changes are discussed.
