In this paper the authors seek to understand why white and Hispanic parents are far more likely to marry within one year of a non-marital birth than are African American parents.  They conclude that this is largely due to a shortage of well employed, marriageable young men in the African-American community, and also due to African-American men's attitudes toward marriage.
