This national survey of 2020 adults finds that people are worried about the societal impact of the separation of parenthood from marriage. Conversely the survey found that respondents viewed childrearing as secondary to mutual happiness and fulfilment when asked about the purpose of marriage. The authors note a generational gap in opinions about the morality of cohabitation and out of marriage childbearing.
