This paper provides an overview of the teachings of Christiantity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam with respect to marriage, and discusses divisions that have arisen within some of these religions over the issue of same-sex marriage.  It demonstrates that, in all these religions, the overwhelming consensus is that marriage requires a man and a woman, and that supporters of homosexual marriage only constitute a small minority of adherents.
