This study provides evidence that conservative religious convictions contribute to a positive, authoritative style of parenting that is associated with enhanced child outcomes.  It argues that the perception of religious parenting as harsh and authoritarian is not supported by evidence, and offers an explanation of why children benefit from being raised in families with conservative religious beliefs.
