This paper examines the effects of religious affiliation and religious commitment on family size and birth spacing decisions in Spain.  It finds that practicing Catholics have higher rates of fertility than non-practicing Catholics, atheists or individuals in interfaith relationships, and that Protestants and Muslims have higher rates of fertility than any other group.  However, the birth rate has declined in recent decades as religious commitment in this country has plummeted.
