In this essay the authors examine the American youth crime data from the National Youth Survey. They evaluate risk factors and the principles of reform espoused by the U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The authors favour the emphasis on strengthening families and social institutes as a means of preventions. They also support an approach to sentencing that considers punishment and rehabilitation. The authors recommend that Great Britain consider the same principles for youth justice.
