This paper examines the effects of young adults' earnings on their transition from home to independent living to first marriage in the United States.  Its findings suggest that higher personal wages reduce young peoples' age at home leaving and first marriage and increase the likelihood of living independently.   In contrast, greater parental resources are associated with a delay in both home leaving and marriage.
