This paper discusses the diverse patterns of home leaving among European men and women in sixteen countries.  It pays particular attention to the timing of home leaving and the extent to which it coincides with the completion of education or union formation.  The authors suggest that the home-leaving decision is part of a complex interplay between economic, cultural, and institutional factors.
