This document presents statistics on the number and characteristics of children who have either run away from their homes or have been thrown out by a caregiver.  Among other things, this study found that most runaways/thrownaways were older youth who were more independent, involved in activities of which their caregivers did not approve, and inclined to resist parental authority.  It also found that the vast majority of all 'voluntary missing' young people eventually returned to their homes.
