This study compares the risk factors for cardio-vascular disease among happily married, unhappily married, single, divorced and widowed women.  It finds that women in marriages with high levels of satisfaction had fewer biological, lifestyle, and psychosocial risk factors for heart disease compared to all other groups.  The authors conclude that marriage can be beneficial for health, but only if relationship quality is high.
