This paper examines children's experience of family breakup, formation, and re-formation in Europe and the United States.  It discusses similarities and differences between numerous countries.  It finds that rates of lone parenthood and family breakup are particularly high for the United States while, on the opposite end of the spectrum, the vast majority of children in Italy are born into married families and few experience parental divorce.
