This paper identifies factors which influence church membership among young adults, including age, family formation and attitudes towards marriage and family. The research suggests that childbearing, marriage, childhood religious experiences, and the dissolution of cohabiting relationships increase religious participation. Divorce is found to decrease religious commitment and participation for men, but increase it for women, and cohabiting is found to decrease it for both men and women.
