This paper provides a comparative analysis of the concentration of fertility and the proportion of women who remain childless in different European nations and the United States.  Although significant country variations exist, the authors suggest that there is, increasingly, a division of labour between women, as childbearing becomes ever more concentrated among a smaller proportion of women.
