This paper examines the effects of educational attainment and field of study on women's likelihood of remaining childless.  It finds that the probability of childlessness increases with educational attainment, but that the field of study is more important.  Findings also suggest that women who pursue education in teaching and health care have much lower rates of permanent childlessness than women educated in the arts or humanities or for religious occupations.  The authors discuss the implications of these findings.
