This paper provides evidence that childbearing after age 35 or 40 is significantly associated with survival and good health among very old Chinese people, particularly women.  It discusses four factors that could explain the benefits of late childbearing on health and longevity: social factors, biological changes caused by late pregnancy and childbirth, genetic and other biological characteristics, and selection.
