This paper discusses the problem of residential segregation and examines the ways in which neighbourhoods affect children's development and opportunities for success.  The authors suggest that neighbourhoods affect children profoundly because they are instrumental in providing child and family-related insitutions, social interactions, a normative environment, and labour and marriage opportunities.
