This paper explores the relationship between crime and poverty and finds that crime increases poverty in low-income neighbourhoods. It argues that until stricter crime prevention and enforcement measures are taken, anti-poverty programs will be ineffective. It also looks at the costs of crime, not only in terms of monetary value, but also in terms of its negative impact on individual and community feelings of safety and well-being.
